Ready Corps
As a Ready Corps host site, HandsOn recruits Ready Corps Members to serve 10-month terms (1700 hours), working with disaster trained staff to ensure every Alabamian is prepared for emergencies. Serving as a Ready Corps Member is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate or a seasoned professional looking to expand their social and professional networks and serve their community at the same time. Ready Corps members receive a bi-weekly stipend during their service term and a generous education award upon successful completion to be applied toward past or future education expenses.
See 2017 ReadyCorps Member Position Description for more details and how to apply.
Ready Corps, an AmeriCorps program managed by Points of Light, teaches individuals and families how to best prepare for disaster.
During training sessions, corps members teach people how to better prepare themselves and their families for disasters, and ensure participants know what hazards and emergency alerts systems are available in their communities.
Corps members also conduct service projects, including emergency kit-building and door-to-door canvassing to share information about being prepared. Members also help strengthen communities’ ability to respond and recover from disasters by training volunteer leaders and other community organizations on how to manage volunteers during a disaster as well as covering other disaster topics.
